Recently, I’ve been working with an increasing number of design leaders looking for help getting their ideas into a form that’s ready to be shared with the world.
It’s a fun full-circle moment for me, since my earliest work in tech was as an editor. I worked with writers to create “web friendly” content that clearly and efficiently communicated sometimes complex ideas in this new medium. It was through this work that I found my way into information architecture, and from there into design roles.
Editorial never really went away for me, though: That skillset inevitably came in to play as I worked with writers on Adaptive Path case studies, website copy, proposal materials, conference talks by contributors both internal and external, and even a few of your favorite design books. 😉
This work isn’t about commas and verb phrases though—it’s about helping a writer understand their own ideas more clearly so they can find their own unique expression of them.
That’s why I’m so excited to return to it, and why I see it as a natural extension of my leadership coaching work I’m already doing. Driving clarity is at the heart of what I hope to do for my clients, and working with clients with big ideas to express gives me a uniquely fulfilling chance to create that.
